Heavy Core in Heavy Heat
The Buzzard Project is an advanced magnetite project located inside the Woomera Restricted Area in South Australia. Spectrum Consultants were commissioned to conduct a geotechnical drilling program at the project location. This program was designed by the client to provide data and samples to support ongoing pit design activities. The program consisted of four large diameter diamond drill holes to approximately 200m depths. Spectrum was selected to complete the program because of our intimate knowledge of the area, security clearances and our outstanding knowledge of South Australian magnetite deposits. Our team managed and executed the program working towards a strict budget and timeframe. The remote location and high temperatures presented challenges. But despite limited power supply and communication options, the Spectrum team maintained consistent, reliable communication and reporting – ensuring regular data uploads to the client. The program was successfully completed over a 3-week period with approximately 12 pallets of core being dispatched to the laboratory for geotechnical testing.
