With a growing portfolio of complex tailings and water infrastructure projects, we are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Project Engineer to join our team.

About the Role

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of major tailings and water infrastructure projects. You will work across the full project lifecycle—from planning and design coordination through to construction, commissioning, and operational support.

This role requires a balance of technical expertise, project delivery capability, and leadership. You will be responsible for driving project outcomes, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring alignment with client expectations and industry best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate project execution across multiple tailings and water infrastructure projects
  • Provide technical oversight during design, construction, and operational phases
  • Manage project scope, schedule, cost, and risk to ensure successful delivery
  • Interface with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Oversee construction activities, ensuring compliance with design intent and specifications
  • Support governance, monitoring, and surveillance programs for tailings facilities
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards and guidelines (including ANCOLD and GISTM)
  • Contribute to the development of project strategies, methodologies, and delivery frameworks
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and project staff
  • Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, and documentation

About You

You are a motivated and pragmatic engineer with strong leadership capability and a passion for delivering complex infrastructure projects safely and effectively.

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Significant experience in tailings dam construction and/or operations
  • Proven experience in project delivery within mining or water infrastructure sectors
  • Strong understanding of dam safety, governance, and regulatory frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working within ANCOLD and/or GISTM frameworks
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or working towards
  • Experience in instrumentation, monitoring systems, or dam surveillance
  • Project management qualifications or formal training

Tailings Dam Surveillance Technician (Express of Interest)

Spectrum Consultants is seeking a Tailings Surveillance Technician to assist our clients in developing, executing, and managing large networks of geotechnical instrumentation on our Tier 1 client’s world-class mine. This is a full-time (contract) position reporting to the Principal. Applicants must be east coast based. The role is offered on a 12 days on and 9 days off roster.

Spectrum Consultants is a rapidly growing boutique mining consultancy offering geological, geotechnical, and mining engineering expertise to clients around the world. There are opportunities for the successful candidate to join the team working on a range of multi-disciplinary projects.

Key Duties include:

  • Safety leadership through visible behaviours
  • Assist site supervision, compliance, and performance monitoring on a day-to-day basis of geotechnical drilling and instrumentation installation
  • Installation of new Dam monitoring instrumentation to the highest standards. Systems include: Radar, Prisms, Peizometers, Inclinometers, Seismic Systems, communications networks, power systems, smart markers and total stations.
  • Comprehensive training will be provided for candidates willing to learn geotechnical instrumentation systems including radar, prisms, piezometers, inclinometers, seismic systems, communications networks, power systems, smart markers and total stations.
  • Maintenance and Repairs of existing Dam Monitoring Instrumentation
  • Upgrading existing Dam Monitoring Instrumentation as required
  • Supervision of OEM technicians and unskilled labour
  • Participate in and coordinate operational risk workshops
  • Assist the Dam Safety Specialist and RTFE when required with Dam Surveillance and Inspections.
  • Communication; Ensure clearly concise documentation is maintained for all monitoring systems and your inspections. All reports are to be provided to the appropriate stakeholders within a timely manner.
  • Processes and Procedures; Ensure that safe work procedures are up to date and adhered to, including installation and testing SWP’s and confirming TARP triggers are actioned immediately in the appropriate manner.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Experience working on active mine sites and leading Mine Safety Culture.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in mining
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience specifically in dam monitoring systems is highly desirable
  • Outstanding time and program management skills
  • Self-motivated and problem solving attitude
  • Low Voltage electrical experience desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and participate effectively in teamwork.
  • Proficiency with MS Windows environment
  • Collaborative and hands on way of work with responsibility taken for deliverables and outcomes.
  • Valid NSW Class C drivers’ licence
