A Quarry with a Geotechnical Dilemma and a Gold Problem
The Beavis Quarry is located near Avoca, Victoria and produces high-quality sand, clay and aggregates for the construction and decorative products industries. Commissioned by Palladium Quarries, Spectrum Consultants were able to:
- Conduct a slope stability assessment of the quarry following a slope failure.
- Developed a Slope Remediation Plan
- Develop a Mine Plan, incorporating slope stability outcomes.
- Oversee remediation works
- Assist with addressing a prohibition placed on the quarry by the Victorian Regulator
It was rewarding for Spectrum to see this project through and to assist Palladium with returning the quarry to full production. Transforming the quarry into a safe, stable, and profitable mine was a positive outcome that the Spectrum team helped achieve. Spectrum’s mine planning allowed the operator to achieve their operational goal of establishing a stable pit with long term access to all products at all levels. We were also able to help the operator achieve a steady production profile with consistent gold production from deep-leads at the base of the pit.
